Typographic Literature & Caxton
Back in 1995, when I was ten years old, my dad was studying Social Media at Portsmouth University as a mature student, the course covered typography, graphic design and looked at how the media influences society. During these years my dad wrote to many type foundries and asked for free fonts and type specimens. A lot of the foundries and typographers send him specimen packs, filled with leaflets, booklets and posters. Read more...

New Logo Concepts
Since July the 1st I've been trading as Adam Wintle Design, it's now nearly November and I've decided its crunch time for a better logo!
Before Adam Wintle Design there was MallmusMedia!, a collaboration between some like-minded web designers and developers - some of the people at Mallmus went seperate ways which meant the MallmusMedia! brand had to be scrapped. Its unfortuate as I quite liked the old logo.
I've been playing around with these following concepts for quite a while and I've been getting feedback from a few friends, lastnight a fellow designer suggested I got all of my Twitter followes to share their opnions; but I thought better yet, I could just get feedback through a blog post. Meetdraw 3: The Meetcounter
Back in March this year I was invited to attend a brand new event all the way over in Bournemouth called Meetdraw. Bournemouth and Portsmouth aren't exactly next door neighbours, but Paul Seys, one of the events organisers really encouraged me to show up. Read more...
Looking back at Lord Likely
Lord Likely is the first site in an ongoing series where I'll be looking back and reviewing the site's performance over the past year. I'll be looking at improvements in the site's statistics and traffic, and also how I've worked with the client to maintain a steady increase of visitors.
Years ago, before I even knew who Lord Likely was I had the thrilling job as a dish-washer at a local cinema; here I met a talented cartoonist and writer called Andy Fanton, who among having a small repertoire of cartoon characters he also wrote a blog called Lord Likely; which can only be described as "humorous and erotic adventures" set in the Victorian era. Sounds a bit inappropriate and offensive (for my family-friendly blog); well I won't go into details about the site's content, instead I'll focus on the facts and figures from behind the scenes. If you really are curious about the content, feel free to visit Lord Likely yourself. Read more...
Yes, this site is still alive!
“Is Adam Wintle dead”? A question I never thought I'd hear, and one I'll hopefully never hear again. But it has been asked and needs an answer: “I'm alive”!
Few people know this, but I was once in the IT industry, mainly working for various government departments and corporations; Mallmus Design and MallmusMedia! my previous business ventures we're born from a hobby which grew into a small company, but I'd always maintained my contacts from when I worked in IT, at the end of July I got a call from a great friend who asked if I could step into a project as they needed someone with my skills.
Here I'm going to reflect over my past five weeks work and life; it may become a bit of a rant, but I hope you find it all interesting... Read more...
Changes
This blog has been long overdue an update, but I have some good excuses! Since my last update I have been to two web conferences, the first being OpenWeb 3 in Southampton on the 11th of June and the second being @media in London last Thursday and Friday, I'll talk more about those in a second; there's also been a bereavement in the family which meant I had to take time away from my desk, but lastly, there have been some internal changes here at my studio.
For the past six years, since I was 18, I have been trading under the name Mallmus, which was once Mallmus Design and then became the more well-known MallmusMedia!, in the beginning it was great, things were exactly as I'd dreamed, while I was still a student I'd managed to generate income and stared to build up a brand around myself. The first people who hired me asked "what do you call yourself, what is your business called?", and I shamefully admit that I decided to use the name of a character from a game, a wizard called Mallmus, and before I knew it I'd become "that Mallmus guy who does logos" and the name stuck. Why Your Opinion Doesn't Matter
Dear reader, let me take you back, way back. Back to a simpler time. A time of innocence and laughter. I'm sure we all have fond memories of 2007.
I had just started managing a marketing company, generating leads for property investors. Basically, we ran advertising campaigns offering to buy people's houses and then sold the resultant enquiries to property investors. It's not an especially pleasent trade but there it is. Read more...
Future of Web Design Conference 2009
This is my short review of the Future of Web Design conference which I attended last Thursday in London. Originally this post was nowhere near short and got so detailed that I was going to have to split it down into two parts! After reading over what I'd wrote again, this is a slightly slimmer version. A New Home
Finally a new home for MallmusMedia! and this time a new logo, a new direction and some new team members Introducing Dan Benham and Lauren Sharp; both of which are very talented graphic designers and will hopefully be pushing out Mallmus' creative boundaries. Dan teamed up with us in March 2008 to work on some Herbal Skateboards art direction and we decided to keep him on; and Lauren worked with us in December '08 on developing our Made brand (which has yet to be announced!) and we decided to keep working together.
